Footwork Demo

Easter Sunday saw 4 kitesurfers come to Marazion for the Spring Wave Clinic with BKSA Coach Lee Pasty Harvey. Despite the severely cold ese wind and smallish waves, everyone had a great time riding strapless and learnt lots to be getting on with during the coming months. We started off with some wave theroy in the warmth of Jordans Cafe, before moving onto the water and looked at footwork, gybes, getting over waves and wave riding.
The next clinic we have coming up is the Intro to Waves clinic at Gwithian or Marazion, weather depending. All the info on the clinic page. Next Wave clinic is tbc, please contact to register your interest.
Thanks to Mel from Splashography for taking the pics, you can see more on his facebook page here

Despite the crazy weather with torrential rain and hosepipe bans up country, its been almost perfect for learning to kitesurf down here in Cornwall.
With small waves and North to West winds, Gwithian has been amazing with all the beaches around St Ives bay offering up amazing kite conditions.
In the southerly winds we have been having, Marazion has been perfect, although some waves last week have stirred up a bit of weed making for some line tangles and the students learning about the importance of staying away from weed and cleaning your lines after your kitesurf session. The beach have now been cleaned by Cornwall Council who use the weed to fertilize the farms around Penzance.
With great winds forecast again all this week and the beaches pretty empty, there has been no better time to learn to kitesurf in Cornwall, so make the most of this summer and get in touch today to book in your extreme adventure with Pasty Adventures, West Cornwalls only British Kite Surfing Association recognised school.
We also pride ourselves on offering the best value kitesurf instruction in the UK concentrating on giving intimate instruction to the students. To do this we recommend 1:1 instruction so that you can learn at your own pace. We also offer the 'Learn with a friend' option for all of our kitesurf courses as kitesurfing is a really socialable sport and great to learn with your mates. 2:1 is the biggest class size we run, unlike most other schools who operate on a 4:1 basis. We believe this is unfair as you spend a lot of time hanging around and we want you to learn quickly, while having an amazing time and feeling like you are getting amazing value. Kitesurfing is an expensive sport to learn but we feel it is worth every penny and want you to feel this right from your first lesson!

We can also sort you out with some great deals on new equipment thanks to local shop Westcountry Watersports in Truro and our sponsors North Kiteboarding so there has been no better time to get into the Worlds fastest growing extreme sport.

Over the weekend of 19th & 20th June, 3 times World Champ, Steph Bridge hosted the Edge Race Cup at Exmouth, Devon.

Despite a super light forecast, there were 24 entrants across the 3 classes of, Race board, Directional and Twin Tip. With zero wind on Saturday morning, Stand Up Paddle Races were held. Winning through the heats to the 3 man final were Lee ‘Pasty’, Callum ‘North’ and local boy George.

In an increasing tide, Lee used his extra power to take the wind ahead of Callum & George.

By mid afternoon, the sea breeze started to fill in at around 8 mph which was just enough to run 2 races for the course boards. A BBQ and Band at the Boat Shed followed with everyone dancing away the night, thank full of an 11am start on Sunday.

With a fairly strong northerly wind blowing first thing, there was some doubt in the race crew’s minds that the sea breeze would be enough to run any racing. At around 12.30, with 6 mph of offshore blowing, all of a sudden, the flags turned and it started to blow at 8mph onshore. The course was set and 2 races were run.

As the wind picked up to around 12mph, the course was set for the Long Distance race. 2 laps of high speed racing across the wind saw Lee using his added weight to power through to take the win.

1 more course race was then run which in the increased breeze included the TT’s and directionals.

The prize giving was then held where Steph thanked all the sponsors, helpers and riders for coming despite the forecast.

Denzil took the win despite only winning 1 race which proved how close the action was at the front. Steph only managed to race twice due to her other commitments, but still only took 1 win. In all the real winner again was Kite Racing, proving that you can have fun and competition in under 10 mph of wind.

Results-

Race Board-

1st Denzil Willaims (Fone)

2nd Ollie Bridge (North)

3rd Callum Edge (North)

4th Lee Harvey (North)

Twin Tips-

1st Nigel Haworth

Directional-

1st Tom Debenham

Long Distance – Lee ‘pasty’ Harvey

SUP Race – Lee Pasty

Over the weekend 16-18 April the first round of the BKSA Tour was held at Watergate Bay.
In super light winds Lee placed 3rd in the course racing with Denzil 2nd and Jason 1st.
With the sea the flattest it could have been the Wave Jam was cancelled and they were lucky to get 2 races in on saturday in a measley 8mph of wind. Fingers crossed for more wind at the next round to help Lee on his quest for 2 British Titles in 2010.
